Verizon Wireless is beefing up
network capacity as New Hampshire's Lakes Region shifts into
high gear for the 85th anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle
Week. The company has activated a temporary cell to
accommodate an anticipated increase in wireless usage as
tourists and motorcyclists converge on the area from June
14-22.
The Cell on Wheels (COW) is a mobile cell site that enhances
wireless capacity -- allowing more customers to concurrently
place calls, exchange messages, and download content.
Verizon Wireless maintains a fleet of portable transmitters
to support its network when highly populated events or
weather disasters stimulate increased wireless voice and
data usage.
"The presence of a mobile COW will enhance our network
capacity as motorcyclists make their annual pilgrimage to
Laconia," said Richard Enright, director of network
performance for Verizon Wireless New England. "We're
constantly investing, engineering and deploying resources to
stay ahead of the growing demand for our products and
services." |
