With the city council effectively hammering nails into the
coffin of motorcycle events in Myrtle Beach, officials are
looking to take the biker event ban countywide.
Both the protestors and supporters of the May motorcycle
rallies are encouraging attendance of City council meetings,
signing petitions and even taking the fight to a larger
county level. Myrtle Beach Officials and residents
protesting the rallies want to expand the local ban to Horry
County and are expected to ask the county council to enact similar initiatives. According to
the
Myrtle Beach Sun News, Horry County Council Chairwoman
Liz Gilland said the County council supported Myrtle Beach's efforts to get rid of the rallies, but there has not been a formal vote.
Fighting to keep the motorcycle events, some local business
owners and bikers are organizing a grass roots effort to have
their voices heard. Over 500 people turned up at a local
nightclub Wednesday night to sign a petition and learn what
can be done to save the rallies. Many pledged to attend the
upcoming county meeting on Tuesday and voice their opinions.
Proving this fight could become personal and emotional,
local bar owner Don Emery gave out Horry County Council
Chairwoman Liz Gilland's cell number encouraging the crowd
to call her with their opinions.
And apparently the kid gloves are off for both sides of the
motorcycle debate.
Whether a direct quote or a sentiment arrived from an
interview,
the Myrtle Beach Sun News wrote in it's Thursday edition, 'Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes is expected to attend an upcoming Horry County Council meeting to ask for the county's support in driving out the bikers'.
