Its a customized motorcycle like none other and has the
biggest name as its designer.
The DC superhero, Batman will be riding his motorcycle
known as the Bat Pod in the upcoming movie
'The Dark Knight' and it appears producers are taking advantage of
bikers fascination with anything on two-wheels.
First,
the motorcycle itself which includes features never
considered by the most adventurous bike customizers in the
industry.
Batman's ride is tricked out with grappling hooks, cannons and machine guns. The front and rear tires are both a monstrously huge 508 millimeters, and the engines are in the hubs of each wheel. Steering isn't by hand but by shoulder, since there aren't handlebars. Instead, there are shields that fit each arm like sleeves and have the ability to rotate around the bike's frame. The two foot pegs are set 3 1/2 feet apart on either side of the tank, which the rider lies on, belly down.
That tank also moves up and down — you know, in case Batman needs to dodge bullets or slide under semis.
And some may say the trend of moving away from the
previously favored custom route of chrome to the current and
now popular matt paint and wrapped pipes look was predicted
by the movie's producers and Bat Pod's designers.
If other biker trends follow the movie's lead, we wonder
how the average biker would fill out a rubberized
bullet-proof spandex outfit?
Initially the motorcycle was only seen by the filmmakers and stuntmen, then unveiled in the the
Today Show in June 2007.
Now the ultimate is motorcycle customizations is featured on
trailers and even included on a

or work computers (shown above right - click to enlarge).
To further promote the movie, which hits theaters in July 18th, the Hershey Company announced Special Edition Batman-themed products
and a contest to win a customized, Batman-themed, hand built
MV Agusta F4 motorcycle
valued at $35,000.
Like any custom motorcycle, the Bat Pod is touring the
country, visiting theme parks with its next scheduled
appearance at
Kings Island near
Cincinnati Ohio on July 5th. The Bat Pod will be on display
July 5 from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. at King's
Island's entrance, International Boulevard.
