New President Takes The Helm At KTM North America

The New Year will see a new name as the North American president of small but worldwide motorcycle company when KTM enjoys new leadership.

The Austrian motorcycle company announced John Hinz would become its new President as of January 1, 2017, assuming responsibility for the North American subsidiary to include the KTM Group brands KTM, Husqvarna Motorcycles and WP in the U.S. and Canada. Hinz will work closely with current President Jon-Erik Burleson until January 31 to ensure a seamless transition, while Burleson prepares to assume the role as Brand Ambassador for Husqvarna Motorcycles beginning February 1.

KTM is known for its two-stroke and four-stroke off-road motorcycles though in recent years it has expanded into street motorcycle production and developing sports cars. Their current line-up of motorcycles include enduro, street and naked models.

“My passion for both the company and individual brands remains strong and true, as well as my personal investment in continuing industry initiatives to support the sport of motorcycling, which tie back to the company’s foundation of success and core of the brands,” current President Jon-Erik Burleson explains. “I’m looking forward to assuming the role of Brand Ambassador with Husqvarna, which allows me to remain involved with a brand that is so near and dear to my heart and stay connected within the motorcycle industry.”

As a lifelong motorcyclist with nearly 20 years of experience in the motorcycle industry, ten of which have been spent with KTM North America, Hinz has played an instrumental role in the company’s success today. Hinz started in the industry working directly with dealers as a District Sales Manager before transitioning into the role of National Dealer Development Manager.

Being an avid enthusiast, his first role at KTM was managing Product Marketing, then taking on North American Research & Development responsibilities as well as overseeing the KTM/HMC RC8 Superbike Racing program. This transitioned into the broader role of Vice President of Group Marketing and Product Development and most recently the position of Managing Director for KTM.

KTM feels his experience in the industry, and with the company, will prove invaluable as the KTM Group further establishes itself as a driving force within the North American market.

“The KTM Group has experienced substantial growth over the last several years under Jon-Erik Burleson’s leadership. I am excited for John Hinz to transition into the position of President so he can continue the implementation of the successful business strategy that the KTM North America group has developed with the executive management team,” Hubert Trunkenpolz, CSO of KTM AG said. “On behalf of the entire KTM AG Board of Directors, we would like to thank Jon-Erik for his over 20 years of hard work and dedication to the company.”
