A Hypermotard 821 used in the Warner Bros. feature film ‘CHIPS’, which is opening on March 24th was one of eight Ducati Hypermotards used in the making of the film. Outfitted with police lights, sirens, CHIPS graphics and signatures from the movie’s stars, the bike represents a rare opportunity to own a true Hollywood collectible. Making the motorcycle even more rare, its only one of two that are still available after the movie’s production.
This is also the same Ducati ‘CHIPS’ Hypermotard that was seen in a live segment on the January 11, 2017 "Jimmy Kimmel Live" appearance which featured the movie’s two stars, Dax Shepard and Michael Peña. The motorcycle will have also been on display at the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood during the month of March.
The plot line of ‘CHIPS’ has its lead characters, two California Highway Patrol officers switching to the Ducati Hypermotards in order to catch the bad guys who are also riding Hypermotards. What follows has been described as ‘astounding stunts and action in the movie [which] are a delight for motorcycle fans and the general public alike’.
It’s certainly a motorcycle that’s been places, seen things and knows ‘people’. The Hypermotard is being auctioned by Ducati North America to raise money and awareness for People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), an organization working to end homelessness for individuals and families in California for the last 30 years.
As mentioned, the ‘CHIPS’ Hypermotard is liveried with the CHP graphics used in the film and outfitted with police lights and siren. Promoters of the auction are quick to note that in some states this police livery may be not legal for road use and the motorcycle is being sold as a unique collectible. The starring Ducati Hypermotard will come with a Letter of Authenticity from Ducati of North America as well as signatures from “CHIPS” stars Dax Shepard and Michael Peña.
The auction will go live on Thursday, March 16th at 12:00pm PST and will close on Sunday, March 26th at 12pm PT. 100% of proceeds from the auction will benefit the PATH Foundation to support their mission to end homelessness among individuals, families, and communities.
