Ducati's Monster 1200 S Enjoys Honorable Mention

One of Europe’s oldest and most influential awards of industrial design has given an honorable nod to Ducati’s Monster 1200 S.

Bearing in mind the Italian motorcycle manufacturer is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the Honorable Mention at the XXIV ADI Compasso D'Oro award could be considered a suitable present of sorts. If so, was it wrapped?

The Compasso D’Oro awards by Association for the Industrial Design (ADI) are the oldest and most influential recognition of industrial design in Europe since 1954. The most recent awards, the XXIV edition, were determined by an international jury of experts which examined 237 design products.

Ducati submitted what it feels one of the top models in its range, the 1200 S version of the evergreen Monster for consideration. Deemed the ‘naked’ bike par excellence since its appearance in 1992, the Monster family has opened up an entirely new two-wheeled segment.

Going with the ‘Less is more’ line of thinking for the core concept of this eclectic bike, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer refers to its naked bike as ‘essential, eye-catching and unmistakable’.

“It's hugely satisfying to receive yet further recognition from the ADI, and only a few years after winning the Compasso d’Oro itself for the Panigale”, said Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati Design Center Director. “We share this satisfaction with our colleagues in the technical department: without their contribution it would have been impossible to achieve certain design solutions. The satisfaction is double because, in this case, we were redefining that motorcycling design icon which is the Monster”.

The Monster 1200 S, the only motorcycle at the XXIV ADI Compasso d'Oro to obtain an Honorable Mention, will be displayed at the show at Palazzo Isimbardi, Milan, from June 14th to 22nd.
